Sure, sugar and starches are both build by monosaccharide components, but saying that starch is sugar would be generalizing it too much considering their 3D structure and characteristics are entirely different.

But anyway, like XRW175P6MQ4 said, a person will gain weight if she/he has a positive energy balance, whether it comes from carbohydrates, proteins or fats, as the components will be converted and the energy stored in the body as triacylglycerol and glycogen.

Flour is not sugar, it consists mainly of starches. Sugar is a different subgroup to carbohydrates.

It's Swedish.

They're both nice. Why don't you just submit one of them, and include a link to the other in the description? That way people can choose for themselves which they want to use. :)

Personally I like the sunset version a little more, but that's because I've always liked the sunset.

Quote by princessmeyrin023It actually 2500x3500 in my browser. ^^

Really? That's odd. It's still the old resolution for me. Well, anyways, thanks for checking that. :) It must be my computer then. >.<

f

I've been trying to update one of my scans I've submitted with one with a higher resolution, and while the whole process is working, and the newer scan actually replaces the old one, on the preview page the new resolution of the scan fails to show, it's still got the old one. I was wondering if I'm the only one experiencing this problem. I've tried refreshing the page, deleting my cache and so on, but the problem is still there.

Oh! And the scan I'm talking about is this Prince of Persia one. The resolution says 1250x1750, when it's actually 2500x3500.

Fascinating question, and I honestly can't say I have. But vegetarians being slimmer doesn't only have to do with the diet. It's been shown that vegetarians in general have a healthier lifestyle than "carnivores"; they've got a higher education level, fewer smoke, they work out etc. Keep in mind that I'm only speaking in general, and that it doesn't comply with everyone. So the fact that there are fewer overweight vegetarians than their counterparts has to do with other factors as well.

Quote by EnchanterSo, if you have hundreds of wallpapers in 4:3 format, would you do this method to every one of them or is there a more efficient method?

No, never. Although it may seem a bit tedious, for me it hasn't been a problem. I don't switch my background image very often, which means that I don't do it too often. And on top of that, I don't use every wallpaper I actually download from Minitokyo. Some may be very nice, but as soon as they're used as a background image, it doesn't fit. Unfortunately I don't know a faster and more efficient method than that.

f

Quote by FrostyWolf359I have a widescreen LCD and well, here's what I do with 4:3 wallpapers.

My screen's native res is 1440 x 900 so I make sure I have the highest res version of the wall (preferably 1600 x 1200). I then resize it to 1440 x 1080 (so the width is right) and then cut it to 1440 x 900, but make sure I get the right cut to include all the most important parts of the wall. This method works for most 4:3 walls as you don't lose too much of the viewing area (only 180 pixels).

I switched to wide screen not so long ago, and that's the exact same method I'm using. My resolution is 1280 x 800, and the only problem I've encountered is when the wallpaper only comes in a smaller resolution than that.

Quote by yothsothgothAlso, with the contellations... in 15 years... they shouldn't change THAT much, right? :\

Well, I can't say because I don't know how you see it, but 15 years shouldn't have any noticeable effects, unless you involve mathematics.

f

About the constellations, the universe is in constant expansion, meaning that two bodies, like two stars, that seem close to each other in the night sky, like the constellations, will in the end not look the same. The constellations you see now, haven't always existed, and they looked differently for those who lived in the Ancient Rome, and will look differently for people in the future. This expansion also means that although the Speed of Light at 3x10^8 m/s is the fastest we know, in space, light actually travels a bit faster than that due to the expansion. Personally I find it very cool.

And why does change have to be depressing. Sure, changes make you nostalgic, but things can never be the same. Instead of looking at it with sad thoughts, why not with happy ones? If it hadn't been for changes, our world would never develop, our society would never be as it is today and perhaps neither would we. Without changes, we would never grow as persons either.

f

All I can say is that you're not alone in this. Uni can be stressful, but just hold on. Failing doesn't mean the end of the world. You just need to retake the exam. While that isn't very fun, there's not much to it than that. Trust me, once I thought the world would end if I failed an exam, then I did and I noticed everything went as it used to. Then I failed the retake and of course I got mad, but I only used that energy to revise even harder, and I passed on my second try.

Lately I haven't had the energy or motivation to revise, but I did my best and now I'm just waiting for the results. I'm not positive that I'll pass it, but if I don't all I need to do is to retake the exam and hopefully pass it then. I think you're just tired from studying the whole year, and when summer is drawing near (it's here already), it's hard to be inside and revise while the weather is beautiful outside. Like said, just hold on and you'll do fine.

f

Ranma 1/2 is an old anime that I warmly recommend, drawn by none other than Rumiko Takahashi.
Then there's also Record of Lodoss War if you're into the fantasy genre.
If you're into comedy, there's Dragon Half. It's short, only 2 OAV episodes, but it's hilarious.
And you seem to like mecha (since you've mentioned Gundam). Then Martian Successor Nadesico is highly recommended, as well as Neon Genesis Evangelion if you haven't seen it.

Quote by Sakura-DustI knew some stuff like this, about chimpanzees for ex, they masturbate and have lesbian sex (saw it in a Discovery documentary), but I didn't knew about swans and penguins. I honestly don't think it's homosexual ism, it must be something else, a behavior disorder, a hormonal issue or something. Oh well... this world IS falling apart after all...

I hope your not insinuating that homosexuality is a disorder of some sort because i belive it was in the 1970's that the APA(American Psycological Association) cleared that Homosexuality was not a disorder or a mental inbalance of any sorts, but a natural way of living.

As too the world falling apart i hardly think that homosexuals have anything to do with it, i think the majorty of bad acts in this world come from heterosexuals(and thats coming from a heterosexual), wars, genocide, and the denial of human rights come about usually due too predjudice, not unlike predjudice that is aimed at homosexuals, just at a higher intensity.

This is not a shock to me and it is a shame that more do not realize that homosexuality/bisexuality is natural, and bits of information like this are proof.

Shinsengumi89

I couldn't have said it better. I've known about this for a long time, and this only proves that homosexuality/bisexuality is natural, and that humans are in no way superior or different from the animal kingdom; we're a part of it, not apart from it.

Quote by kuroimisaMods or elite members can move your scan :)
You can ask an Elite member (though it's not really their job to move items- they have the ability to, but it's not their responsibility to ;))

The best option is to hit the "report" button on the left menu of your gallery item. Type in the box "move to *category*" and when we get the report, we will move it :)

merged: 06-26-2007 ~ 09:57pm
PS: I've moved it :)

Thanks for moving it, and for answering my question. :)

I was wondering if there is a way to change the category of a scan you've submitted? I submitted this scan awhile ago, and I've noticed that a category for Virtua Fighter has recently been created. However, this scan has not been moved so I thought I'd do it myself, but I have no way of doing it (either that or I haven't found a way to do it).

So I was wondering, is there a way for me to change the category of a scan or are mods the only ones that can do it?

I'm quoting from a site:

Quote: Does Tea Contain More Caffeine Than Coffee?

While coffee and tea are both sources of caffeine, the amounts of caffeine in any single serving of these beverages varies significantly. An average serving of coffee contains the most caffeine, yet the same serving size of tea provides only 1/2 to 1/3 as much.(Ref.: Caffeine by The Institute of Food Technologists' Expert Panel on Food Safety & Nutrition.) One of the more confusing aspects of caffeine content is the fact that coffee contains less caffeine than tea when measured in its dry form. The caffeine content of a prepared cup of coffee is significantly higher than the caffeine content of a prepared cup of tea.

Quote: A cause to a much lighter skin colour in Europe compared to those in Africa is most likely because of a mutation in the genes. In other words, an allele was created of the same gene. In the case of migration to Europe, dark skin colour wasn't needed anymore and therefore a person with a mutation, which coded for lighter skin colour, could survive (s/he did not adjust to the new environment, the mutation simply didn't kill the person). And in turn s/he could pass it on to the next generation. If the same person got the mutation while still in Africa, then s/he would probably not live long enough to reproduce and the mutation would at that moment die with the owner.

Just to note, mutation doesn't happen that fast, it usually happens during the birth. Yes it is possible for mutation to actually happen when you're alive but to take effect would take probably took long for notice and mutations are spontaneous so to actually live to pass on these mutations is kind of hard because many people back then didn't live that long.

I never said it went fast. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough on that matter.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by mutation "happens during the birth" because it happens all the time; mitosis, meiosis... and some mutations don't have to take that long to notice. I'm not talking about those that result in a new species or that which results in what we today call evolution, but the ones that cause cancer and tumours. That is a form of mutation which causes the cell to divide uncontrollably and which never enters the G0-phase of the cellcycle, hence a tumour is formed.

As for the people not living long enough to pass on the mutations which e.g. caused a lighter skin colour, those that actually did lived long enough could pass it on to the next generation and this is most likely because they were more physically fit than the others that died as children (or simply because they were lucky enough not to get eaten by a predator or something, or perhaps died of an infection.) This in turn is being inherited by their offspring etc. etc. Like said before, I'm not saying that this happened over a year or two, or even 5 generations, it has taken long to reach where we are today.

Quote by babyLemonI think, instead of disease, it's more because of adaptation. Take skin colour, for example. As people migrated out from Africa to... say, Europe, the production of melanin will no longer be required, as they don't really have that much sunlight there. Therefore, melanin produced will no longer be delivered up to the skin to become eumelanin. This, in turn, will result in a much fairer skin. As melanin is not intensely needed anymore, your body will adjust to produce fewer of it so that the resource can be used somewhere else.

Same thing with facial features. The fact that in Europe, the weather are much drier and colder requires the nose to be narrower so that they can retain more moisture to keep the inside of the nose moist and un-chapped. This, in turn, force the change of the shape of the nose.

As for Michael Jackson... Hmmm... well... first of all, I am not sure how credible the sources are. That is what he claims, and he can claim all he wants. I guess, hmmm... when you look at it, vitiligo should make your skin patchy, and on top of that, there's NO way that a black person could become THAT white. Well... that's all I am going to say about michael jackson.

Please keep in mind that I am not a doctor, and that this is just my opinion about what happened.

The body isn't forced to change itself because of the environment, and the body doesn't adjust to the environment in any way. Of course, what we see today has to do with the environment, I'm not saying that the environment didn't have anything to do with it at all.

A cause to a much lighter skin colour in Europe compared to those in Africa is most likely because of a mutation in the genes.

This can be compared to why there are so many species in the world. A wolf isn't in this world to keep the rabbit-population down, and the rabbit isn't here to prevent the weeds from overgrowing. They're here because they're able to survive. And if they're able to survive, something must've gone right, and because they're able to survive, they're also able to reproduce, passing on the genes to their offspring.

To sum it all, the keyword is survival. ^^

I was just wondering. Reading most entries, people here say they don't socialize much and spend most of their time on anime/manga. Exactly how much time do you spend on anime/manga? 1h? 2? 3? 4? 5? I mean, I spend less than an hour a day on anime/manga, and I don't consider that a lot. It's not that I don't enjoy it, rather it's because I don't have much time for it and when I do have time, that doesn't mean I will spend it on anime/manga. I just think there's more to life than anime/manga.

I've seen guys wear skirts, the last was a guy who was wearing one of those tight, miniskirts along with stockings. It drew my attention for a second and then I didn't care any more. It didn't look like he wanted to cross-dress on purpose either, it was just his personal style. It wasn't something you need to make fun of, if he want to wear a skirt, then that's his choice.

f

I used to be stressed to that point of having gag reflexes, lost of appetite... in general feeling ill. But now I've learned how to handle it but that doesn't mean that I don't feel stressed, though. I just don't have the symptoms anymore, which I'm glad for.

The remaking of FF7 to PS3 is still just a rumour. There have been no official statements or confirmation from SquareEnix that FF7 remake is in development. Click here to read more.

The anime about Zack and Cloud is called FF7: Last Order. ;)

I agree with you, though, it's becoming too much. It feels like SquareEnix is trying to milk the FF7 concept as much as possible and personally I'm perfectly happy with just the original FF7 for the PSOne.

I usually have under-leveled character when playing a game for the first time. Mostly it's because I totally ignore the small quests and just follow the storyline. If I play the game again, I do the small quests and usually my characters become over-leveled.
